Agri commodities need to be fumigated to prevent their damage from stored product insects majorly Beetles, Weevils and Moths. Primary insects damages the grains from inside while secondary insects feeds upon damaged commodities. Fumigations were carried out as per NSPM regulations mostly at warehouses, processing facilities and distributions centres. In India, two restricted fumigant Methyl Bromide and Aluminium Phosphide are used for stack fumigations which is done by creating an air tight enclosure with fumigation covers and keeping them under fumigations for recommended exposure periods as per NSPM 11, 12 & 22. Fumigant concentrations are monitored and evaluated to check and ensure effectiveness of the treatment.
